Children's Books

Today at Kelly's Korner she is doing your favorite children's books! I love to read and I hope that Addi will love to also. I was that nerdy kid that read everything I could get my hands on and spent my lunch in the library reading. Yes, I was that dorky. Anyways, here are some of my all time favorite kids books!

This was the very first book I ever read by myself. As it turns out, this was Josh's favorite book also!

This is such a great series and I don't know how many times I've read these!

Okay the Frog and Toad series cracks me up now, but they are still really good, Addi already has a couple.

I literally had every Bernstein Bear book and I'm so sad I don't know where any of them are! I've started buying them again for Addi and I've had so much fun re-reading them, they have such good values and lessons in them.

What are your favorite children's books?
Hope you have a great weekend!!!

Teething

Y'all, teething has been the hardest thing I've ever had to go through, I can only imagine what poor little Addi feels like. For the last couple of weeks, she has been teething and it has been a nightmare to say the least! Last week, she woke up every 45 minutes one night...yes...it was just as awful as it sounds. Josh ended up sleeping with her on the couch, because I was so exhausted I could just feel my nerves snapping! Now every night hasn't been that bad, but she has been waking up at least once, sometimes twice a night and the bad thing is it takes her FOREVER to fall back asleep. Like two hours! Agh! She hasn't been real fussy during the day, just when the tylenol starts wearing off, and then she won't let me put her down for anything! Hopefully, her little teeth will break through soon and she can go back to being her happy little self, but until then pray for us that we make it through this tough time!

Mother's Day Weekend!

This past weekend was my very first Mother's Day as a mommy and it was so much fun! We had kind of a busy little weekend too. On Friday, Addi was with Skipper for most of the day, she had spent the night in Searcy on Thursday (which is a different post entirely-teething) so I slept until 11:00! It was so wonderful!!! When I woke up and got around, me and Josh went to eat lunch at Zaza's! I got a yummy salad and Josh got margarita pizza, they were both very good choices. After we got done eating, we walked across the street to Cupcakes on Kavanaugh and got a strawberry cupcake!

Skipper came and brought me Addi that afternoon, and we went to Walmart and I picked up the rest of the guest room furniture. We are painting tomorrow so sometime in the next week I will post a before and after pic. Addi surprised me by pulling up on this little tote that's in her room! I looked over and she was just standing and I was so shocked I called Josh, but apparently she's done that before!

We played for a long time in hopes to tire her out! Friday night we had a delicious dinner of fried backstrap, mashed potatoes, and grilled corn. Also that night, Josh got a call from Kyle...long story short, Kyle had appendicitis and had his appendix removed early Saturday morning! :(
Saturday, we went to Searcy and had lunch with Whitney and Andrew's family to celebrate his sister's graduation. It was fun to walk around Harding. We did have a bit of a "situation" at lunch. Josh was holding Addi at the table and Addi kept leaning forward trying to grab plastic wrappers and sugar packets. I told Josh to watch her because she kept putting them in her mouth. Well, I got up to get a piece of cake, come back and Addi is choking on something and coughing so hard she threw up! I swabbed her mouth with my finger and found two wrappers! Oooo I was so mad at Josh! Anyways, after that incident and I calmed down, we took some pictures. I wanted to get a family pic in the glass chapel, but there was a wedding going on.

After lunch, we headed out to Scott's house to swim. Addi looked so cute in her little bikini! We all got in, it was a bit chilly at first, but not bad at all. We had a group out there too! Scott got in and decided to give Addi her first swimming lesson. Let's just say, she didn't really care for the water after that, especially not after when I took her, I slipped and dunked her sideways. Poor little thing had such a hard day! Lila took her inside and comforted her and the rest of us had so much fun playing! I can't wait till this summer when we can do it again.

That night we had dinner at Pei Wei and we got to meet Kyle's parents! They are so sweet and I'm glad Kyle's dad finally got to meet Addi!

We made milkshakes that night and Addi slept almost 11 hours straight, that's how worn out she was.
Sunday morning, Josh made me chocolate chip pancakes which were sooo yummy. We didn't get to church because Addi wasn't feeling very well, but I did get to take a nap while Josh watched Addi. He had to go up to the lab for some of the day so me and Addi hung out and just did a whole lot of nothing! Addi got me a sweet card, flowers and a new Pandora charm for my bracelet! Thank you! For dinner, we went to Buffalo Wild Wings. We have waited so long for it to open! It was so good and I ate myself sick. It was a great first mother's day! Hope your weekend was good!

Baby Names!

At Kelly's Korner today she is doing Show Us Your Life for baby names! I love looking at baby name books and love hearing what other people are naming their babies. So, since we already have a daughter named Addison, I will share with you what her name means. Josh actually picked out Addison, because he wanted a name he could shorten to call her by, that's why we call her Addi. Danielle is my middle name and I received that name, because my dad's name is Danny.

If we have a son next, we have already agreed that Josh gets to pick his name. His choice is

Kyle Brady

This is of course after Kyle and Landon. (Landon's middle name is Brady.)
They picked this name out together while we were pregnant with Addi. Haha!
We will call him Brady though.

If we have another girl, I get to pick out the name!!!

My choices are:

Ellie Grace
Charlotte Lee (but call her Charlie)
Gracie Belle

I would love having a boy next, but since I get to choose the girl's name I'm kinda leaning toward another girl!!!

Mini Strawberry Shortcake Recipe

I made these Sunday night for dessert and decided to post the recipe because a couple of people have asked how to make them and they are just so easy. Okay so first, you go to Kroger and in the baking section they have shortbread tartlets that are already made. Step two, I chopped up about a carton of strawberries and put a couple of tablespoons of sugar in with them and stirred them around till all the berries were coated. Put them in the fridge for however long you want to, minimum time is 10 minutes, I put mine in for about an hour. It just creates a sugary berry juice that is really good. Step three, I used a pint of heavy whipping cream with 3 tablespoons of sugar and beat it in my electric mixer till it had medium peaks. Probably 3-5 minutes on medium speed. To assemble you just fill the tartlet shell with berries then top with the whipped cream. I put my cream in a ziploc and cut the tip off so I could make them extra pretty. Finally, I grated some semisweet chocolate over the top. Pretty simple and definitely yummy!

Missing Dog...Again.

Well Remus ran away...again. There must be a dog in the neighborhood that's in heat, because last week every time we would open the door, Remus would bolt. He always comes back, but sometimes its like 30 minutes before he makes it back. There is no chasing him because he thinks its a game and just runs away faster. Frustrating to say the least. Anyways, so last Wednesday I was getting loaded up to head to Searcy. I had a hair appointment at 10 and we were already running late, so as soon as I open the door Remus just took off. I didn't have time to wait around on him to come back so I left thinking, "oh he'll be back and will just chill on the front steps till I get back." Wrong. When I got back home that afternoon there was no sign of him, but what was really sad was there was little yellow paw prints on the front door, I guess he was pawing at the door trying to get in. :( Anyways, we are going to start a more active search today and see what happens. Last time he ran away he was just down the street at a neighbor's house having a little dog vacay, so hopefully he's being taken care of somewhere!

Lingerie and Tornados!

All I can say is, what a weekend! Well, Friday night we went to Rick and Dezra's for Italian night! We had been doing theme dinners once a month with the whole family, but took a break from them for some reason, so I'm glad they are happening again, because we love to eat! Scott made lobster ravioli that were just heavenly. I ate literally piece upon piece of bread to soak up all the glorious sauce. I made myself sick too. Haha!

After dinner, Addi played with her grandpa and Lila, and cousins and great grandparents and aunt and uncle. I don't think she was bored to say the least! She decided she didn't want to miss out on all the excitement by going to bed, so she stayed up wayyy past her bedtime. She had alot of fun though.

We finally decided to walk across the yard in between rain drops to Josh's grandparents house and try to put Addi down for the night. Even though sister girl was in a crib, with her sound machine, she still didn't sleep very well at all! She woke up every two hours and it was awful! Needless to say we were very thankful when Josh's family took her when she woke up the next morning and let us sleep in! Me and Fran did manage to sew a little bit which is always fun. I have so much to learn! Saturday morning we went to Hadley's birthday party! I cannot believe she is one! Well, she'll be one next week, but I still can't believe it! I get a little teary eyed thinking about it! The party was so much fun and Janelle decorated it sooo cute. It was candy-land themed and there were so many creative touches that made it so special. The cake was amazing too! There were a lot of babies there so it was kinda crazy, but super fun! Addi had a great time. She was a little zoned because she was so tired! We finally got to meet the other Addison and she is just as cute and spunky as Tamra says!

After the party we headed back to Little Rock and on the interstate we saw real life storm chasers! It was so exciting and I felt a little weird taking pictures of random people while driving, but our windows are tinted and even if they saw me I'm sure they like people taking pictures of them...at least that's what I'll tell myself.

I don't think they were the "Storm Chasers" from Discovery Channel, but they had some serious equipment with them. That night I went to Cajun's to Elizabeth's lingerie shower. It was so much fun to have a girl's night out, even though we were all a little scared of the storms around us! Elizabeth got a lot of great stuff and we laughed so much, it was a great night. I made it home safe and sound, despite Kavanaugh being flooded and me nearly having a panic attack because I thought my car was going to float away! Haha.

On Sunday we actually went to early service at church! It was our first time to go that early, but since Addi was up and that works better for her schedule, we thought we would give it a try and we really liked it! After church we went to Kroger to get some stuff to smoke that night. We decided on ribs and chicken. It was sooo good! Josh is getting really good at smoking stuff. Our meal consisted of smoked ribs and chicken legs, grilled corn, fried okra, lays potato chips and mini strawberry shortcake. Yum! It was also fun to watch Landon and Carson try to feed Addi baby food, I guess two bites is a success for their first time!

Despite the terrible sleep we got Friday night and all the storms Saturday, it was a wonderful weekend! Hope yours was great too!
